For those seeking Chapel Hill homes of distinction and a vibrant lifestyle within a gated community, The Governors Club offers an array of home choices in an awarding-winning private golf community. Located south of the Town of Chapel Hill, NC in Chatham County, The Governors Club was founded in 1988 by a development team who acquired 33 parcels, over time, that collectively made The Governors Club what it is today - approximately 1,600 acres of rolling terrain. The Governors Club enjoys the distinction of being one of the premiere residential golf course communities in the Southeast. The Governors Club is located near the activities of small, charming towns, yet, near the cultural, arts, sports, medical services, and educational opportunities of the area. Chapel Hill, Durham, and Raleigh comprise the three points of the Triangle and the cosmopolitan community of the Governors Club offers the perfect place to live within the Triangle - a peaceful seting, near everything, including the Raleigh-Durham International Airport.
Within the Governors Club, the clubhouse is known as the gathering place for social events. From elegant evenings to casual meals with neighbors, there's always something not-to-be-missed. Jazz by the lake, investment club meetings, informal family fun nights, 4th of July Parades, to name a few, are enjoyed in and around the 42,000 square foot clubhouse that features men's and women's locker rooms, a golf shop, a lakeview dining room, a grand ballroom with balconies, meeting and banquest facilities and a club room.
For golfers, the Jack Nicklaus, personally-designed 27 hole golf course takes center stage, combining beauty with a challenging course. Edwards Mountain is strikingly beautiful and the golf course follows the flow and contours of the mountain that flaunts lush Carolina foliage, shimmering lakes, and serene woodlands - all enjoyed while winding through the neighborhoods of Governors Club.
For serious or casual tennis players, there is a full tennis program, a busy pro shop, and six hydro tennis courts, as well as two hard tennis courts. Governors Club players participate in league play across the Triangle as well as inter-club matches, round robins, and mixed doubles events.
The indoor and outdoor swimming pools, plus a splash pool for toddlers, are next door to the tennis facility as part of the fitness center. From May - September, the Pool Grill is open. The center also offers weight training equipment, personal training, a variety of classes from Pilates to Yoga, and excellent cardio training equipment.
The Governors Club includes ten communities and neighborhoods. Highland Pond is at the top of Edwards Mountain and represents the grand estates of the Governors Club on 2.5 to 3.5 acre parcels and homes of about 4,000 to 18,000 square feet. Vistas from Highland Pond include views of the Town of Chapel Hill and Jordan Lake.
The Estates homesites range in size from about 0.75 to 1.75 acres and are sprinkled through several areas within the Governors Club. The homes usually range from 3,200 to 9,000 square feet. The northern area of the Governors Club is called Saddle Ridge and is comprised of 1/4 to 1/2 acre parcels on eight private cul de sacs. Several homesites are along the golf course frontage on the 20th, 21st, and 22nd holes of the Nicklaus Signature Golf Course and usually range from about 2,800 to 5,000 square feet. Set-back from from Governors Drive and surrounding the Governors Club Wellness Center is Tryon Court, made-up of about 66, 1/4 acre parcels.
The custom homes are single and multi-level homes and range from about 1,800 - 4,000 square feet. Tryon Court is member-owner and managed, providing exterior maintenance services, allowing more time for enjoying the plesures of the Governors Club. For optimal privacy and seclusion, many choose Governors Square, located near the front entrance - 45 parcels of approximately 1/4 to 1/2 acre parcels, built from one of three choices of floor plans.
One significant benefit of living in Governors Square is landscape and lawn maintenance services. Located near the center of Governors Club is Walker Falls, overlooking the golf course and Lake Morehead, the largest lake in Governors Club. Walker Falls includes 29 parcels of about 1/4 - 1/2 acres each. Homes are built from pre-designed plans and lawn and landscape maintenance are a benefit of living in Walker Falls. Stone Brook homes are known as the sophisticated village homes with a European "look and feel" that feature stucco, stone, and cedar and are nestled in the rolling hills. Stone Brook also has it's own amenities such as a pool and children's play area, tennis courts, recreation area, pavilion, sidewalks, wooded common areas, and water gardens. There are architectural "base" plans for the homes that usually range from about 2,700 - 6,200 square feet, each on parcels that range from about 1/4 - 1/2 acres.
Vance Villas offer townhouse and detached choices, located near the clubhouse. Morehead Forest is located beside the lovely Lake Morehead, nestled in the southern part of Governors Club. Most parcels are about 1/4 to 1/2 acres and the neighborhood has beautiful views of water, golf, and woodlands. Located in the southwest area of Governors Club is Wilkinson Park, a neighborhood of detached homes on about 1/3 to 1/2 acre parcels with homes of about 3,000 to 5,000 square feet.
